There is Nothing Like a Third-World Zoo

In the Western world, zoo's have substantial enclosures with multiple layers of protection for the visitors. Not so in the third-world. And Phnom Tamao Zoo, about an hour out of Phnom Penh, is no exception. Watch those kiddies! This is a fun and relatively clean zoo, but curious fingers can get one in a heap of trouble in no time.

Deer, monkey and exotic birds roam freely while there are about 20 plus animal species behind fences. All caged animals appear healthy and well attended to.

There are some pond-side locations that would be wonderful picnic sites - but for the loose monkeys and stork like birds. These animals would undoubtedly mistake picnickers for caterers.

We went on a weekday and we were about the only guests. I found that particularly pleasant. I am told the place is a zoo on weekends.

No known website. Google the name and you can stitch together more details.
